The Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) will meet in Austin on September 16-19 with an extended list of agenda items. On September 16, the SBOE will be hear public testimony on instructional materials submitted under Proclamation 2015. Some of the items include consideration of the revised TEKS for Languages Other Than English (LOTE) and approving the rate of return on the PSF. The rate of return is the means for determining the amount of money in the Available School Fund (ASF). As required by SB 6 (passed in a special session in August 2013), 50% of the ASF becomes the Instructional Materials Fund. The SBOE will also consider developing a long-range plan for Texas public school and the process and methodology for that development. During the January 2014 board meeting, the SBOE heard about long-term issues facing Texas public schools from representatives of the Texas High Performance Schools Consortium and from a six-member panel representing the state’s Education Service Centers.
