Speaker Joe Straus (R-San Antonio) was re-elected Tuesday, January 13 as Speaker for the 84th Legislative Session. This was the first record vote in 40 years for a contested speaker's race. House Speaker Straus received 127 votes while Rep. Scott Turner (R-Frisco) received a total of 19 votes.
This will be Straus' fourth term as Speaker of the House.
