Donald M. Berwick was appointed by President Obama as Director of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) during the July 7th congressional recess. The recess appointment allows Berwick to stay in the job until the end of 2011 without full Senate confirmation.
Obama resubmitted Berwick’s full nomination to the Senate on Monday, September 13th.
