The Department of State Health Services (DSHS) released its summary of proposed budget cuts, totaling $245 million. The budget reductions are to be submitted as part of the agency’s 2012-2013 Legislative Appropriations Request (LAR), the budget request for the next two years.
Individuals or organizations may submit comments regarding proposed budget reductions via e-mail at LAR@dshs.state.tx.us. DSHS will accept comments through July 12, 2010.
As the basis for the 2012-2013 LAR, state agencies were asked to submit a budget request that is 5 percent lower than the amount appropriated to them for the current biennium. Agencies also must provide options to decrease budgets an additional 10 percent.
At the stakeholder meeting, DSHS will provide a budget presentation (PDF) that includes background information and a draft list of reductions to meet the additional 10 percent in budget reduction options.
The LAR is due to the Legislative Budget Board in August.
