The House has approved a bill, by a vote of 247 to 161, which will extend the enhanced Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP). U.S. House of Representatives leaders were called the House back to Washington from its August recess to vote on the legislation (HR 1586) on the heels of the U.S. Senate passing the legislation last week.

The bill includes $16.1 billion in additional state Medicaid funding and will extend enhanced FMAP for additional six-months after the 2009 stimulus money expires at year’s end.

The Senate approved this bill last week. The bill will now head to the President.
