On December 13, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced more than $670 million in additional grant funding to states, tribes, and territories under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).  The formula for distributing funds to states is based on each state’s weather and low income population.  Texas received $115,506,734.

LIHEAP assists low income households meet their home energy needs, particularly those low income households whose energy costs consume a greater proportion of their household income.

The additional allocation of LIHEAP funds ensures that states have resources available for their energy assistance programs.
