A report from the House Research Organization (HRO) argues, “Texas lawmakers may revisit the merits of expanding eligibility and increasing funding for pre-kindergarten programs when they convene for the 82nd regular legislative session in 2011.”

A bill approved during the 81st (R), HB 130, would have funded certain full-day pre-kindergarten programs but arguing for funding to be spent on existing half-day programs, Gov. Rick Perry vetoed the legislation.

The HRO report provides an overview of pre-kindergarten in Texas, including state and federal funding streams and ongoing debate about whether the state should expand its support for these programs. http://www.hro.house.state.tx.us/focus/pre_K81-11.pdf
