In SD 22, former state Sen. David Sibley with 44.97% of the votes and Gulf War veteran Brian Birdwell with 36.49% of the votes are heading to a runoff after neither garnered enough votes during a special election this Saturday. The winner of the runoff, which hasn’t been scheduled, will serve out the remainder of the term left open by the resignation of Republican Sen. Kip Averitt.

In HD 66, Mabrie Jackson won Saturday’s special election, winning 56 percent of the vote to Van Taylor’s 44 percent, according to Collin County’s election results. However, Van Taylor has already been declared the winner last month by Secretary of State Hope Andrade when Taylor won the primary election runoff and Jackson, who lost that election, withdrew her name. Jackson announced she was withdrawing too late to have her name off the ballot. The special election was to fill the remainder of former Republican Rep. Brian McCall’s term. He resigned to serve as chancellor of the Texas State University System.
