Texas Business Groups have released a statement urging lawmakers to vote no on anything similar to SB 51 (Hughes) or amendments to the same effect including amendments that could be added to SB 8. From their statement: “We believe strongly that legislation of this kind represents an unprecedented intrusion into the liberty of employers to operate their businesses as they see fit. Texas’ successful business climate is premised upon this fundamental liberty, but this legislation undermines it by placing employers in an impossible position between federal and state mandates. It will also subject employers to potentially crippling litigation costs at both the federal and state levels with no ability to protect themselves against this risk. We therefore believe that these proposals can do extreme damage to the economic recovery currently under way and to the state’s ability to attract new businesses in the future.” Business groups on the letter included:
