Governor Greg Abbott sent a letter to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Texas Military Department (TMD) directing expansion of Operation Lone Star border security efforts. This letter follows Governor Abbott’s previous letter to Texas county judges explaining Executive Order 41, which invokes federal and state Invasion Clauses and authorizes the Texas National Guard and the DPS to apprehend and return immigrants who cross the border between ports of entry or commit other violations of federal law. Governor Abbott also sent a letter President Biden urging that he reinstate or craft new border security policies. Increased funding for National Guard deployment and other border operations was included as part of the recent Budget Execution Proposal.
