The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is hosting virtual public information meetings to provide information on the potential impacts of the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposal to lower the primary annual fine particulate matter (PM2.5) National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) from its current level of 12 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m3) to between 9 and 10 µg/m3.

The TCEQ will provide information on the proposed NAAQS revision, designations process, and requirements for an area designated nonattainment. These meetings will focus on implementation of the potential revised NAAQS and not on the health effects associated with the NAAQS revision. The virtual public information meetings will be held for potentially impacted counties on the following days:

  • March 3, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. (CST) – Atascosa and Travis Counties
  • March 3, 2023 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. (CST) – Harris, Jefferson, and Montgomery Counties
  • March 6, 2023 from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. (CST) – Cameron, El Paso, Hidalgo, Kleberg, and Webb Counties
  • March 10, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. (CST) – Bowie, Dallas, Harrison, and Tarrant Counties
