At a press conference on June 27, several U.S. Senators announced that a vote on the repeal of the Affordable Care Act and adoption of new Senate language would be delayed until after the July 4th recess. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell stated that Senate Republicans were “working toward getting at least 50 people in a comfortable place” regarding the vote. The Senate’s new language, styled Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017, is the latest in a series of rewrites to the American Health Care Act of 2017. The American Health Care Act language was originally withdrawn before a vote could be taken in late March, rewritten, and then passed out of the U.S. House on May 4. For more details see the Congressional Budget Office’s breakdown of the Senate language’s fiscal impact here, the text of the Senate’s proposed new language here, and the Senate summary here.
