On March 9, Texas House Public Education Committee Chair Dan Huberty filed HB 22 relating to the public school accountability system. The bill as filed would:
- Reduce the number of domains from five achievement indicators to three – and adds clarification or detail on what those indicators will include
- Would assigning A-F grades to each of the three domains but not an overall rating to schools/districts
- Would change the performance rating of “D” to reflect performance “in need of improvement”
- Delay implementation of the A-F system to August 2019
- The criteria is revised for Public Education Grant (PEG) eligibility – schools with letter grades of “F” in both the student achievement domain and the school progress domain must offer transfer options to students
- reducing the weight of standardized tests from 55 to 50 percent
Huberty also filed HB 3828 which relates to accountability interventions and sanctions.
