During their December 15 meeting, the TWDB hearing the Biennial Report on Water Use of Texas Water Utilities. Significant findings include:

  • On average, 57 percent of metered municipal water is delivered to single‐family and multi‐family residential customers.
  • Generally, as utilities become larger, the share of their metered water delivered to residential customers decreases, from 69 percent in the smallest utility category to 48 percent in the largest. This decrease corresponds with a greater percentage of water being delivered to non‐residential customers, particularly commercial customers.
  • While the average per‐person daily volume of all metered water use varied greatly between utilities, the average per‐person daily volume for residential use varied much less.
  • For utilities in the most populated counties in the state, water use by single family residential and commercial sectors generally fell or remained static between 2013 and 2015. Other water use sectors showed a mix of increase and decrease.
