In the January 13 HD 13 special election, none of the four candidates received enough votes to prevent a runoff. With all of the precincts in, two Republican candidates will face each other in a runoff – Austin County Judge Carolyn Bilski, receiving 43% of the vote, and attorney Leighton Schubert, receiving 33% of the vote.

Other candidates in the race included Republican Becky Berger, a geologist, as well as Democrat Cecil Webster, a retired Army colonel but neither of those candidates received over 13% of the votes.*

The seat became vacant when newly elected Sen. Lois Kolkhorst (R-Brenham) resigned her House seat.

The runoff will be called by Gov.-elect Abbott following state canvass.
