The 2014 Texas Water Summit forum held May 19 and organized by The Academy of Medicine, Engineering & Science of Texas generated discussion from speakers in regards to water availability in Texas, agriculture and industrial water needs, and future possibilities in brackish, technology and industrial water reuse. Although a multi-year drought is favorable based on some modeling, other patterns predict Texas odds of having an El Nino this year are 65%. Other speakers proffered that market principles would assist in allocating water more effectively. As speakers offered different solutions towards reducing water stresses, Laura Huffman with the Nature Conservancy said that although the primary action needs to be conservation, it will not address all needs; creative solutions are needed as well as discussion on various options.
