The Texas Transportation Commission convened Feb. 24, 2011 for its monthly meeting and took the following actions:

  • Authorized the portion of the SH 99 (Grand Parkway) project located in Harris County with construct authority, and authorized the agency to enter into agreements with the counties in which the project is located for the development, financing, construction and operation of the project.
  • Established a 25-percent discount in toll rates for four-plus-axle trucks as an incentive to use SH 130, Segments 1-4 and SH 45SE.
  • The department is preparing to implement those recommendations the Texas Transportation Commission selects from the TxDOT Restructure Council’s final report to improve the agency. Saenz said an internal change management team is being assembled to guide TxDOT through the modernization process, with Assistant Executive Director of Engineering Operations John Barton leading the team. The team will consist of employees from various operational areas throughout the agency and will work with administration to ensure the recommendations approved by the Commission are successfully implemented. The department also is working to secure the services of an outside consultant to assist with the modernization initiative.
