State Senator Brian Birdwell has been nominated as assistant secretary of defense by President Trump. Birdwell (R-Granbury) has served in the State Senate since 2010, where he has chaired both the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and the Senate Committee on Border Security.

Birdwell’s nomination is subject to confirmation by the U.S. Senate.

Previously, Birdwell announced he would not seek reelection to the state Senate.
