The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) has released a guide on lower-cost options for flood monitoring systems. The Alternative Flood Early Warning System Guide offers practical steps for selecting, installing, validating, and maintaining an alternative Flood Emergency Warning Systems (FEWS). It covers key components, such as water-level sensors, power supply, telemetry, data storage, and user dashboards, and explains how a system’s design can impact performance and reliability.
Traditionally, FEWS are complex and expensive, but recent advances in technology have enabled a new generation of alternative FEWS that are simpler, more affordable, and easier to deploy.
