The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) has released the State Flood Assessment in a report to the 86th Legislature. The report provides an initial assessment of Texas’ flood risks, an overview of roles and responsibilities, an estimate of flood mitigation costs, and a synopsis of stakeholder views received by TWDB on the future of flood planning. In the executive summary, the report highlights TWDB recommendations to the 86th Legislature, including:

  • Improved and updated flood mapping and modeling
  • Coordinated watershed-based planning
  • Mitigation efforts such as policy enhancements, increased technical assistance, and financial assistance for project implementation.
