Governor Greg Abbott held the first meeting of the Texas Classroom Commission today at the Governor’s Mansion. Abbott requested that the Commission focus on three main charges:

  • Improving student proficiency in math and reading
  • limiting screentime in classrooms
  • Identifying additional strategies to attract and retain high-quality teachers

The Commission will also look at ways to help parents support their child’s academic progress and remove unnecessary administrative burdens on teachers.

The Commission will meet regularly and produce a report detailing legislative recommendations for the 90th Legislative Session.
