Texas Gained 165,500 Nonfarm Jobs over Past 12 Months
Governor Greg Abbott announced that the release of July labor market data, which shows that Texas gained 165,600 nonfarm jobs over the past 12 months.
July labor market data released by the Texas Workforce Commission and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows:
- Texas outpaced the nation’s annual job growth rate by a full percentage point, growing at 1.2% from July 2025 to July 2026.
- Nonfarm jobs in Texas totaled 14,468,000 after a gain of 165,600 jobs from July 2025 to July 2026.
- Texans working, including self-employed Texans, totaled 15,207,200.
- The Texas labor force totaled 15,915,600 with a gain of 17,800 people over the last 12-month period.

$1.4 Billion in Monthly Sales Tax Revenue Distributed to Local Governments
Texas Comptroller Don Huffines announced that he will be allocating $1.4 billion in sales tax allocations to local governments for August. This is an 13.6% increase compared to August 2025.

These allocations are based on sales made in June by businesses that report tax monthly and on sales made in April, May and June by quarterly filers.

State Sales Tax Revenue Totaled $4.6 Billion in July
Texas Comptroller Don Huffines announced that state sales tax revenue in July totaled $4.6 billion, which is a 10.1% more than in July of 2025. The majority of July sales tax revenue is based on sales made in June.
The wholesale trade sector was up more than 11% and construction was up nearly 10% compared with July 2025. The manufacturing sector was up approximately 5%. The retail trade sector was up more than 14% compared with last July. Receipts from restaurants were up nearly 5% from a year ago.
