Texas Gained 159,400 Nonfarm Jobs over Past 12 Months
Governor Greg Abbott announced that Texas has gained 159,400 nonfarm jobs over the past 12 months. August labor market data released by the Texas Workforce Commission and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows:
- Texas led all states for jobs added over the last 12 months with a gain of 159,400 jobs, for an annual growth rate of 1.1% that outpaced the national rate by 0.7 percentage points.
- Nonfarm jobs in Texas totaled 14,469,300 after a gain of 5,600 jobs in August.
- Texans working, including self-employed Texans, totaled 15,225,100.
- The Texas labor force totaled 15,932,600 with a gain of 10,900 people over the last 12-month period.
The Leisure and Hospitality industry had the largest private sector over-the-month increase in August after adding 4,900 jobs. Professional and Business Services added 4,500 jobs over the month while Manufacturing added 2,200.
Additionally, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Texas registered at 4.4%, down from 4.5% in last month’s report.

Comptroller Distributes $1.3 in Sales Tax Allocations for September
Texas Comptroller Don Huffines announced that city and counties will receive a total of $1.3 billion in sales tax allocations for September. This is a 7.6% increase from September 2025. These allocations are based on sales made in July by businesses that report tax monthly.

State Sales Tax Revenue Totaled $4.62 Billion in August
Texas Comptroller Don Huffines announced that state sales tax revenue for August totaled $4.62 billion. This is a 7.1% increase compared to August 2025.
Calendar year-to-date sales tax revenue was $35.2 billion, up 7.3% compared with the same period a year ago. Remittances from the manufacturing sector came in 5.2% above the amount in August 2025, and collections from the wholesale trade sector were 1.7% above totals from the same month last year following a nearly 10% jump in July.
