The pace of voters heading to the polls started to slow a bit the latter part of the week but voter turnout still remains significantly higher than previous midterm election years. “Preliminary reports suggest in-person turnout remains record-setting for a gubernatorial election but is losing ground on the 2016 pace”, according to Jeff Blaylock of Texas Election Source. Nearly 1.6 million Texans had voted in person or by mail through the first three days in 30 counties with the most registered voters. Blaylock reports that El Paso and Williamson Counties have already seen turnout in excess of the entire 2014 early voting period. The Texas Tribune is publishing daily updated graphs to show cumulative in-person and mail-in ballot turnout in 30 counties with the most registered voters. Early voting continues until November 2nd.
