Governor Greg Abbott has announced $1 million in grant funding through the Border Zone Fire Department (BZFD) program to support professional fire departments along the Texas-Mexico border region. These funds will provide specialized equipment, maintenance, and medical supplies to support emergency services associated with the execution of border security activities, including watercraft and related equipment, extrication equipment, and chemical detectors/identifiers and communications equipment. Local jurisdictions receiving funding through the BZFD program include: Brownsville, El Paso, Hidalgo, La Grulla, Laredo, Mercedes, Palmview, Rio Grande City, Robstown, Roma, San Juan, and Jim Hogg County.
