The House had adjourned until Monday, August 4, pending bill referral and receipt of messages. Over the weekend HB 4 (Hunter) relating to the composition of the districts for the election of members of the United States House of Representatives from the State of Texas was set for today’s House calendar. Yesterday, Texas House Democrats said the session was over and left the state (HillCo article can be found HERE). Last night Governor Abbott issued a release with a link to his statement outlining the legal consequences House Democrat members face which include the potential loss of their seats and felony violations.

The House is scheduled to gavel in at 3pm. HillCo Partners will continue to monitor the situation.

The Senate will reconvene at 4:00 PM on Monday, August 4. On Wednesday, July 30, the Senate gave initial approval to SB 5, SB 11, and SB 12 after roughly 6 hours of deliberation. All three bills were brought back on Friday, August 1, and finally passed; SB 5 (21-8), SB 11 (17-12), and SB 12 (17-11). The bills will now move to the House for further deliberation.
