The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts has announced the new Transparency Stars program, recognizing local governments for going above and beyond in their transparency efforts.

The Comptroller will recognize government entities that accomplish the following:

  • open their books not only in their traditional finances, but also in the areas of contracts and procurement, economic development, public pensions and debt obligations; and
  • provide clear and meaningful financial information not only by posting financial documents, but also through summaries, visualizations, downloadable data and other relevant information.

The Comptroller’s Office is now accepting applications for five different areas: Traditional Finances, Contracts and Procurement, Economic Development, Debt Obligations, and Pension Plans. Visit their website to review the guidelines for each of the areas. Consult the Transparency Stars FAQs page and the Application Process page for more information on applying.
