On October 20 the State Board of Education will hold a hearing to discuss the Long-Range Plan for Public Education as well as a work session regarding Proclamation 2015.  The meetings will be held at the William B. Travis Building, 1701 N. Congress Ave, Austin.

1. Long-Range Plan for Public Education

The Long-Range Plan Ad Hoc Committee will study the viability and utility of developing a long-range plan for public education. Statutory authority for this action is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §7.102(c).

1. Work Session Regarding Proclamation 2015 Public Comment on Social Studies Submissions

The State Board of Education (SBOE) issued Proclamation 2015 in April 2013. Products submitted in response to Proclamation 2015 were reviewed in June and July of 2014 and are scheduled to be adopted in November 2014 for implementation at the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year. The subjects and grade levels included in Proclamation 2015 are social studies, grades K-12; mathematics, grades 9-12; fine arts, grades K-12; and Principles and Elements of Floral Design. This item provides an opportunity for the SBOE to review comments that have been submitted related to Proclamation 2015 instructional materials since the public hearing in September and any responses to those comments that have been submitted by publishers. Statutory authority is the Texas Education Code (TEC), §31.024.
