On October 14 two federal courts made decisions affecting Texas laws.  The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals issued a stay in the voter ID case, which now will allow Texas’ voter ID requirements under SB 14 (82nd – R) to remain in effect for the upcoming November general elections. The US Supreme Court (SCOTUS) also reinstated a stay that temporarily prevented enforcement of the new abortion law passed last session. The 5th Circuit had reccently lifted that stay on ambulatory surgical center requirements under HB 2 (83rd-2), but SCOTUS reinstated the stay until appeals are exhausted.
