U.S. Rep. John Mica, ranking member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, joined U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess, M.D., who represents the 26th District, and Texas Transportation Commissioner Fred Underwood at the 8th Annual 26th Congressional District/TxDOT Transportation Summit held last week in Hurst.
Rep. Mica outlined his vision for reauthorization of the surface transportation legislation. State Sen. Tommy Williams, Chairman of the Senate Transportation & Homeland Security Committee, addressed funding challenges and policy issues facing the 82nd Legislature. Meanwhile, Commissioner Underwood talked about TxDOT’s recent restructuring efforts and recognized the hard work being done to “modernize” the department. Steve Simmons, TxDOT’s Deputy Executive Director, served on a panel that discussed transportation issues pertinent to the Dallas-Fort Worth region, including the North Tarrant Express improvements and the recently funded I-35E expansion.
