Education

HB 2038 – Price – Relating to prevention, treatment, and management of concussions affecting public and private school students participating in interscholastic athletics was voted favorably out of committee as substituted on April 13.

HB 6 – Eissler – Relating to the foundation curriculum, the establishment of the instructional materials allotment, and the adoption, review, and purchase of instructional materials and technological equipment for public schools was passed out of the House last week and received in the Senate on April 11.

SB 6 – Shapiro – Relating to the foundation curriculum, the establishment of the instructional materials allotment, and the adoption, review, and purchase of instructional materials and technological equipment for public schools was passed out of the Senate last week and received in the House on April 11.

Sunset Bills

HB 1808 – Cook – The committee substitute relating to the continuation and functions of the State Soil and Water Conservation Board was passed out of the House on April 11 and received in the Senate on April 12.

SB 652 – Hegar – Relating to governmental entities subject to the sunset review process was passed out of the Senate as amended on April 13 with 31 ayes and 0 nays and received in the House on April 13.

SB 661 – Nicholas/Hegar – Relating to the continuation and functions, as applicable, of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the Office of Public Utility Counsel, and the Public Utility Commission of Texas and to the transfer of certain functions from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to the Public Utility Commission of Texas; imposing administrative penalties. SB 661 has been placed on April 14 Senate Intent Calendar.

Note- on Friday the following Sunset bills come up on the House floor, amendments are due Thursday by 10am:

  • Department of Information Resources (HB 2499),
  • Office of Injured Employee Counsel (HB 1774), and
  • Public Finance Authority (HB 2251)
