Brian Birdwell has won the SD-22 special election runoff with 57.87% of the vote (14,198) against David Sibley who had 42.12% of the vote (10,333) with 241 of 241 precincts reporting.
Gov. Rick Perry ordered the special election to fill the seat vacated by the resignation of state Sen. Kip Averitt. Birdwell will serve the remainder of Averitt’s term, which expires in January 2011.
