66 Cancer research project grants totaling more than $60 million were announced by the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). The funds, awarded both to private companies and academic institutions, are the first to be awarded from the $3 billion approved by Texas voters to be invested in cancer research in the state over the next 10 years.

In addition to the grant funds, CPRIT also approved the second CPRIT Scholar in Cancer Research award, this time for the recruitment of an outstanding candidate to join the staff at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
