Today the special election for HD 44, vacated by the passing of Rep. Edmund Kuempel, was won by his son John Kuempel who garnered 65.69% of the vote.
With all precincts in Guadalupe, Wilson and Gonzales counties reporting, Kuempel had 7,245 votes, Gary Inmon was second with 1,123 votes, Myrna McLeroy was third with 1,022, Cheryl Patterson in fourth with 689, Robin Walker in fifth with 544. Next was Daniel Rodriguez with 119, Ron Avery with 79, Jim Fish and Chris Burchell tied with 73, and Tony Gergely with 62.
The 82nd Legislature will now have a total of 101 Republican seats.
