On November 17, 2009 the Sunset Advisory Commission Hearing held its organizational meeting. The commission agreed upon the Sunset Review Schedule, as well as the meeting schedule. Reports for agencies under review in the first part of the Sunset cycle will be ready by March 1, 2010.
It should be noted that agencies that went through review during the last Sunset cycle will be re-reviewed and, as a result, Sunset staff will not start from scratch. Recommendations made by the Sunset Advisory Commission during the previous session will be carried forward, subject to revision and additional recommendations as determined by the current Sunset members. Sunset staff will review whether the agencies have implemented management recommendations made from the last review.
The members of the Sunset Advisory Commission discussed possible rules in each chamber to limit sunset bills and the scope of amendments made to the bill. Sen. Glenn Hegar, Chair, and Rep. Dennis Bonnen, Vice Chair, stated they would be discussing rules with the membership of each of their respective chambers. There was general consensus that it would be good to adopt rules to keep Sunset focused on the structure and operation of agencies.
