The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) announced on March 8, 2011, that the agency will review the status of the Texas kangaroo rat to determine if listing as endangered or threatened is warranted. Public comments should be submitted to the agency by May 9, 2011.  Additional information can be found in the March 8, 2011, issue of the Federal Register (PDF).  

Please visit the task force task force website regularly to keep track of endangered species news and deadlines.  Recent activities include:

  • A proposal to list the dunes sagebrush lizard as endangered
  • The release of the USFWS’ Draft Voluntary Land-Based Wind Energy Guidelines (comments due: May 19, 2011)
  • A proposal to revise critical habitat designation in Bexar County (hearing requests due: April 8, 2011; comments due: April 25)
