The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) has posted the Draft 2024 State Flood Plan for a public comment period open now through June 17. The plan is the first comprehensive statewide assessment of flood risk and brings together the findings of 15 regional flood plans, as well as legislative and floodplain management recommendations, to guide state, regional, and local flood control policy. With a total estimated implementation cost of more than $54.5 billion, the plan presents approximately 4,600 flood management evaluations, flood mitigation projects, and flood management strategies recommended by the regional flood planning groups to reduce the risk and impact of flooding. After reviewing public comments received, the Board will consider adopting the 2024 State Flood Plan later this summer before it is due to the legislature on September 1.
The TWDB Executive Administrator will receive public comments on the Draft 2024 State Flood Plan at a public meeting on May 30 at 10:00 a.m. in Austin at the Stephen F. Austin Building, 1700 North Congress Avenue, Room 170, and via GoToWebinar at this link.
