Early voting started on Tuesday, February 16 for the March 1 primaries. In the Texas House of Representatives there are: 16 incumbents not seeking re-election/open seats, 27 incumbents with only primary opposition and 15 incumbents with primary and general opposition. In the Texas Senate there are 2 incumbents not seeking re-election/open seats, 2 incumbents with only primary opposition and 1 incumbent with both primary and general opposition. Also of note, 15 Senate Districts will not be up for re-election until 2018.
 
Other races in the Texas Primaries will include a seat for the Texas Railroad Commission and several seats in the State Board of Education among races for U.S. President, U.S. Congress, Texas Supreme Court, and the Court of Criminal Appeals.
