During the January 30 meeting of the Texas Transportation Commission, the commissioners will consider the creation of a Commission for High-Speed Rail in the Dallas/Fort Worth Region. The committee will advise the transportation commission and executive director on the development of intercity rail corridors, new transportation policies, and funding and procurement strategies as they relate to the implementation of proposed high-speed rail connecting the Dallas and Fort Worth areas. It will also provide advice on the ongoing preparation of environmental impact statements for high-speed rail from Fort Worth to Dallas, and Dallas to Houston. The transportation commission will also consider the appointment of the presiding officer for the new entity. The new body's first presiding officer is expected to be Bill Meadows, a former Fort Worth City Council member and state transportation commissioner.
