Rep. Jimmie Don Aycock, R- Killeen, who sits on the House public education committee and co-chairs the Legislature’s interim committee on school finance, has started a blog on public school accountability.  In it, he shares his thoughts on the subject and asks for input from the public. He begins by saying, “I believe we need to broaden the parameters used in our rating system.  I propose that a different matrix be developed for various types of schools.” He goes on to suggest a three letter system where the first letter covers test results, the second rating on financial matters (efficiency, soundness, transparency, etc.) and the third could provide “involvement and success” such as parental and community involvement, UIL participation, etc.

Aycock closes the first post reminding readers he is “not entrenched on any particular concept or matrix” but wants to begin the discussion.
