Texas Insurance Commissioner Mike Geeslin said today that he will not seek another term. His current term ends February 1. It has been reported in Geeslin’s letter to staff at the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) that an exact departure date has not been set. He noted, in the letter, that he is committed to “working in any capacity to ensure a smooth transition.”

In a letter to the Gov. Rick Perry, Geeslin said his decision was based on many considerations, but mostly it had to do with his family and a “simple realization that it is time for someone else to lead.”
