The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) has proposed an amendment to 43 TAC 218.13 (PDF) that would specify that the only option for a sole proprietorship is to provide the social security number (SSN) of the owner. The Regulatory Compliance Division, part of the Office of the Texas Governor, has commenced a review of the proposed TxDMV rule and is accepting public comment through August 5, 2026.
