The Texas Education Agency has published the following letters to school administrators:

FFY 2022 State Annual Performance Report and Determination Now Available on TEA Website – The APR is submitted annually to the Office of Special Education Programs at the U.S. Department of Education and reports on the State’s performance on the State Performance Plan. The following documents are now available for public viewing on the TEA website:

Parent-Directed Special Education Services (PDSES) – formerly Supplemental Special Education Services (SSES) School System Requirements and Program Updates – Announces the Supplemental Special Education Services (SSES) program is now known as the Parent-Directed Special Education Services program. PDSES remains a one-time $1,500 online grant for parents of eligible students served by special education and who are enrolled in a Texas public school.

Updated Guidance on Serving Emergent Bilingual Students, including Students with a Parental Denial for Program Services, and Making Assessment Decisions – Informs Texas public school systems of the requirement to provide linguistic supports and assessment accommodations to all emergent bilingual (EB) students as appropriate to the individual students’ needs in all educational settings. This includes students with a parental denial of program participation and is effective immediately.

Reminders and Requirements related to Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect; Human Trafficking, Prevention and Awareness; Fingerprinting and Do Not Hire Registry – Provides information regarding mandatory reporting requirements and training concerning child abuse and neglect, including human trafficking and resources to support school systems. Additionally, this correspondence seeks to inform campus and district personnel of required actions and recommendations for school systems as they relate to employee fingerprinting, mandatory reporting and the Do Not Hire Registry.

Guidance Regarding Disciplinary Actions for Students Experiencing Homelessness – Notice provides guidance concerning PEIMS data reporting, compliance reviews, and more information.

United States Presidential Scholars Program and United States Senate Youth Program – TEA invites high school principals to nominate students to apply for the following programs: United States Presidential Scholars Program and the United States Senate Youth Program. Applications are due October 4, 2024.

2024 Underlying Accountability Subset Data Available in TEAL – Announces that underlying 2024 accountability data was released to school systems to assist school leaders with internal evaluation of academic performance. Due to a pending lawsuit, the issuance of 2024 A-F ratings and Comprehensive, Targeted and Additional Targeted Support school improvement designations are pending and subject to change based on judicial rulings.
