Today was the first day lawmakers could file bills for the 86th Texas Legislative Session. In the first day of prefiling, a total of 465 bills were filed as of 5:30pm. Of note, the first 20 House Bill numbers and the first 30 Senate Bill numbers have been reserved. It is customary for lower numbered bills to be reserved for leadership priority legislation.

Last session there was a record-breaking 525 bills and resolutions filed during the first day of pre-filing.
