The Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) issued a press release regarding new rules for the review and adoption of instructional materials and approval of library collection development standards during a special called meeting on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. Initial rules for the HB 1605 (88R) IMRA process “establish publisher responsibilities for the submission of instructional materials for review, the process for annual requests of instructional materials to review, the contract term for instructional materials, and parent portal requirements.” The Board also approved recommendations from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) to “consider the final adoption of standards for school library collection development,” pursuant to HB 900 (88R).
