Lt. Governor David Dewhurst has given the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services interim charges related to women's health and mental health for all Texans. 

Dewhurst instructed the Health & Human Services Committee to focus on the following:

MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE. Dewhurst asked the Health & Human Services Committee to monitor recent programs designed to improve mental health and substance abuse services. He also asked the committee to assess the contribution that these programs had on several improved outcomes and address any gaps in the current mental health and substance abuse system.

IMPACT OF WOMEN'S SERVICES. Dewhurst called on the committee to monitor the implementation of all women's health programs provided by the state. In addition, Dewhurst emphasized the importance of assessing the impact these programs had on outcomes such as improving access to preventative services, reducing unplanned pregnancies, and maximizing efficiencies.
