The State Board of Education will discuss the proposed Instructional Materials Review and Approval Process at their upcoming board meeting on Tuesday, April 9th. IMRA will be discussed during two agenda items; item 4 and item 5.
Item 4: Update on the Instructional Materials Review and Approval Process
During discussion of item 4, the board will get an update from staff on the scoring methodology, recruiting reviewers and the related dashboard, and to add items to the list that already was made. This item has been marked as an action item, meaning the board will bring it back up during their Friday meeting and a formal decision is expected.
Item 5: Update on Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and Instructional Materials Review and Approval (IMRA) Rubric Development Schedule
Item 5 is a discussion only item, and is not on the agenda for the Friday meeting. In the SBOE pre-board meeting, staff noted it is anticipated there will be a standing item of IMRA 2025 2026 and TEKS revisions will taken together. Additionally, there have been requests from members who have asked about taking up math and fine arts. Staff added they do not want the SBOE to forget the CTE work. Implications for different decisions need to be discussed; this will be robust discussion. Staff is prepared to discuss many options. Staff want to show the correlation between IMRA discussions and the impact to TEKs revisions
