Texas has submitted a climate plan under the Environment Protection Agency’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant Program, which aims to help state and local governments develop strategies to reduce pollution. Over 96% of the U.S. population is covered by these plans. In 2023, under the first phase of the $5 billion program, EPA made a total of $250 million in grants available.
Texas’ plan can be found here. Estimates show that implementation of these measures could reduce GHG emissions in Texas by 174 million metric tons from 2025 through 2030 and 592 MMT from 2025 through 2050. Co-pollutants could also be reduced by 0.6 MMT from 2025 through 2030 and 3.0 MMT from 2025 through 2050. More details on Texas’ plan can be found here.
