In a July 6 request to Attorney General Ken Paxton, Representative Lyle Larson asked for Paxton to opine that voting machines allowing “citizens to choose their candidates on an electronic screen” and also producing a physical paper ballot for vote recording and data retention fall under the Texas statutory definition of a “direct recording electronic voting machine.” Larson further asks that Paxton opine that these machines are thus allowable for use under the countywide polling place program, which eliminates precinct voting in a county in lieu of a centralized county polling place so long as the polling place uses “direct recording electronic voting machines.”
