Today marked the 60th day of the 88th Legislative Session. It was also the deadline for filing bills and joint resolutions other than local bills, emergency appropriations, and bills that have been declared an emergency by the governor. As of this evening, the preliminary information* on Texas Legislature Online (TLO) shows there were more bills filed this session than of any previous sessions with a total of 5,292 House Bills and 2,565 Senate Bills filed for a grand total of 7,857 HBs & SBs.

The only other legislative session when more bills were filed was the 81st Session with a total of 7,419 bills (the data on TLO goes back to 1991).

*Note: the final totals will be larger for the 88th Session, for example in the 87th and 86th Regular Sessions the final totals were more than the preliminary totals.
